Abstract This article considers the role of media infrastructures in U.A.E. racializing South Asian migrant workers making, maintaining and interacting with them. Employing a sonic methodology, I historicize these legacies racialization by considering fiber optic cables carrying telecommunications region their positioning along colonial trade routes, telegraph networks other pathways connecting British colonies. These have more recently facilitated U.S. military interests growing importance as hub for logistics. After analyzing sound sound-related metaphors concerning ’s increasing power region, its infrastructures, argue that we can ‘hear’ how exploit racialize labor but also enable space laborers to come together absorb pressure neoliberal work.
